Information:
St. Luke’s Penn Foundation psychiatry providers and a licensed school psychologist will host an engaging and informative workshop focused on guiding parents through the challenges and opportunities of digital media use among children and adolescents.
The session will cover:
- Current trends in technology and social media use
- Benefits and risks associated with digital media
- Recommendations from the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) for safe and healthy media habits
Parents will receive practical tools and resources, including:
- Step-by-step guides for setting parental controls on iOS and Android devices
- A customizable Family Media Use Plan to support healthy screen habits for the new school year
To ensure content is age-appropriate and relevant, the workshop will divide into two breakout groups:
- Group 1: Parents of elementary-aged children
- Group 2: Parents of middle and high school students
Each group will participate in interactive presentations, hands-on activities, and receive take-home materials to help put strategies into practice. The workshop will conclude with a Q&A session and personalized support for setting up parental controls on participants’ devices.
This event is ideal for parents and caregivers in the community who are looking to better understand digital media’s impact and take proactive steps toward healthier media use at home.
