Helping Children Heal From the Impact of Substance Use

For more than 30 years, St. Luke’s Penn Foundation has supported children and families affected by substance use. Through compassionate, family-centered care, we help young people build resilience, develop healthy coping skills, and feel supported as they navigate life’s challenges.

Camp Crossroads: A Safe, Supportive, Engaging Environment

Camp Crossroads is a unique, therapeutic weekend camp designed for children who have been impacted by a parent or loved one’s substance use. In a safe, supportive, and engaging environment, campers learn that addiction is a disease, that it affects the whole family, and – most importantly – that it is not their fault.

Guided by trained mentors and clinical staff, Camp Crossroads helps children build confidence, develop coping skills, and reduce feelings of fear, guilt, isolation, and helplessness. Campers also connect with peers who share similar experiences, helping them feel less alone and more understood.

Campers can expect a fun, memorable weekend that includes:

  • A supportive, educational environment where they can learn and grow together
  • Traditional camp activities such as hiking, fishing, swimming, and climbing
  • Therapeutic group sessions focused on emotional expression and coping skills
  • Opportunities to build friendships with other children who share similar life experiences

All camp weekends are held at Camp Men-O-Lan in Quakertown.

2026 Camp Dates:

  • September 18 – 20, 2026
  • November 6 – 8, 2026

Level of Care Assessments

Our level of care assessment provides a comprehensive evaluation to determine the most appropriate treatment services for individuals struggling with substance use. Conducted by experienced assessors, these assessments consider substance use patterns, mental health history, medical needs, family and social supports, and overall functioning.

Using the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) Criteria, we identify the level of care that will best support each individual’s safety, stability, and recovery goals, whether outpatient services, intensive outpatient programming, or a higher level of care. We also connect individuals and families with recovery supports and community resources to promote ongoing support beyond treatment. Our team screens for co-occurring mental health conditions to ensure integrated, individualized care recommendations.

The assessment process is respectful, confidential, and collaborative, helping individuals and families better understand their needs and next steps. Our goal is to connect each person to the right care at the right time, promoting lasting recovery and improved well-being.

Mobile Engagement Services (MES)

Mobile Engagement Services (MES) is a community-based early intervention and addiction support program designed for adolescents who may be experimenting with substances, experiencing challenges related to substance use, or engaged in formal treatment and in need of additional support. We partner closely with youth and their families to navigate challenges, strengthen communication, and connect them with the resources needed to support recovery and overall well-being. MES meets teens where they are, providing flexible, youth-centered support in home, school, and community settings to help them build motivation, strengthen relationships, and move toward recovery.

MES delivers ongoing support through a structured four-level approach tailored to adolescents:

  • Engage: Building trust and open, honest communication with teens and their families.
  • Motivate: Helping youth identify personal goals, strengths, and a vision for positive change.
  • Stabilize: Supporting the development of routines and a personalized serice plan to reduce risk and improve day-to-day functioning.
  • Monitor: Providing continued guidance, encouragement, and early intervention if setbacks occur.

Services may include comprehensive substance use assessments and connection to treatment, relapse prevention planning, and crisis support aimed at reducing the need for emergency or hospital-based care. The team helps families navigate complex systems, including school and juvenile justice involvement when applicable.

MES emphasizes family engagement, offering access to recovery supports, family education, and community resources. Additional service coordination may include linkage to medication-assisted treatment, counseling, case management, insurance or funding assistance, and other supports that promote stability and long-term success for adolescents and their families.

MES also provides level of care assessments and ongoing support in Bucks County as part of the ACT 53 process.

Adolescent Outpatient

Our adolescent outpatient program provides compassionate, evidence-based care for teens struggling with substance use and related challenges. Designed to support recovery while allowing youth to remain engaged in school, family, and community life, the program offers a flexible approach tailored to each individual.

Services include individual therapy, focusing on building coping skills, improving emotional regulation, substance use disorder education, and addressing underlying mental health concerns such as anxiety, depression, or trauma. In addition, comprehensive psychiatric evaluations and ongoing medication management are available to ensure each adolescent receives appropriate, integrated care.

We partner closely with families to strengthen communication, rebuild trust, and support lasting recovery. Our team is committed to creating a safe, respectful environment where adolescents feel understood, empowered, and motivated to make positive changes.
