Drug and Alcohol Recovery Starts Here
For more than 30 years, St. Luke’s Penn Foundation has walked alongside individuals and families on their journey toward healing and recovery from substance use disorders.
Individualized Care, Lasting Recovery
Through a personalized, family-centered approach and recognition as an Aetna Institute of Quality and an Independence Blue Distinction Center, we provide compassionate, individualized care across a full continuum of services, empowering people to build meaningful, lasting recovery and thrive in their communities.
Medical Withdrawal Management Unit
Our Medical Withdrawal Management Unit provides compassionate, individualized care for individuals experiencing complicated withdrawal from alcohol and other substances. This St. Luke’s Sacred Heart hospital-based unit offers a safe and supportive environment with 24/7 medical care to manage withdrawal and co-occurring medical needs. Once stabilized, our case managers provide coordination of care for continued treatment to support early recovery. The Medical Withdrawal Management Unit is licensed by the Department of Drug and Alcohol Programs.
- Inpatient Care: We provide a safe, supportive space for individuals in the early stages of withdrawal. Length of stay is based on each patient’s unique needs.
- Medical Management: Our team includes physicians and advanced practitioners specializing in Internal Medicine, Toxicology, and Addiction Medicine, along with registered nurses. We offer 24/7 care to manage withdrawal symptoms and co-occurring medical conditions.
- Psycho-Social Support: In addition to medical care, we offer counseling and case management to support recovery, stability, and next steps.
- Integrated Treatment Plans: We create personalized treatment plans that address addiction as well as any related medical and psychiatric needs.
We believe recovery is strongest when care is coordinated, personal, and supportive. Our team works closely with addiction specialists and medical providers to address co-occurring physical and mental health needs, while tailoring services to each individual so you get the right care at the right time. Along the way, patients receive education and resources to build confidence and prepare for life after discharge. We also partner with community supports to help with a smooth transition to residential or outpatient care. Before leaving, our case managers work with each patient to create a continuing care plan, because ongoing treatment and recovery support are key to long-term wellness, stability, and success.
Our Medical Withdrawal Management Unit is supported by a compassionate, multidisciplinary team that includes board-certified providers in Internal Medicine, Addiction Medicine, and Toxicology, along with Registered Nurses, Case Managers, and Certified Recovery Specialists (CRS). Together, we ensure withdrawal is managed safely and that each patient feels supported and prepared for the next steps in recovery.
We accept patients who are experiencing or at risk of withdrawal alongside other health conditions, those with a history of, or risk for, complicated withdrawal, and individuals using multiple substances, which can increase the risk for severe withdrawal. For more information, contact our Substance Use Disorder Admissions team at 215.257.6553. If you are experiencing a medical emergency, please call 911 or go to your nearest emergency department. The Medical Withdrawal Management Unit at St. Luke’s Sacred Heart campus is licensed by the Department of Drug and Alcohol Programs.
Inpatient, Non-Hospital Detoxification
Our inpatient, non-hospital detox program provides 24/7 support in a safe, structured, and comfortable setting outside of a traditional hospital. Clients receive medically monitored care to manage withdrawal symptoms, along with compassionate support from experienced clinical staff. This level of care is ideal for individuals who need stabilization and supervision during detox while benefiting from a calm, recovery-focused environment that promotes dignity, safety, and a strong foundation for ongoing treatment. Outpatient Recovery Support
Our outpatient programs provide flexible, compassionate support to help you begin or continue your recovery journey while staying connected to your everyday life. Through individualized treatment planning, counseling, skill-building groups, and more, we help you strengthen coping tools, address co-occurring mental health needs, and build a strong foundation for long-term wellness and sobriety.
Our outpatient SUD program offers flexible, evidence based care for individuals seeking recovery while continuing daily responsibilities such as work, school, or family life. Services include individual and group counseling, psychiatric evaluation, medication management, and Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) when appropriate. Treatment is designed to promote stability, strengthen recovery skills, and help individuals build sustainable recovery routines in their community. For more information, call 215.257.6553 or email slpf_rc_help@sluhn.org.
Our Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) provides a higher level of structured support for individuals who need more frequent and comprehensive care without a 24-hour setting. IOP includes group and individual therapy, psychiatric evaluation, medication management, and Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) for substance use disorders. This program helps individuals strengthen coping skills, build confidence, and prevent relapse in a supportive outpatient setting. For more information, call 215.257.6553 or email slpf_rc_help@sluhn.org.
Our specialized alcohol program is designed to address the unique medical, psychological, and behavioral aspects of alcohol use disorder. Services include individualized treatment planning, psychiatric evaluation, medication management, including alcohol specific medication-assisted treatment (MAT), and targeted therapeutic interventions focused on relapse prevention and long-term recovery. This specialized care is offered in both outpatient and intensive outpatient (IOP) levels of care, depending on individual needs. Family Help
We understand the devastating impact that drug and/or alcohol use can have on a family. Often, families don’t understand the disease of addiction or how to talk to their loved one about their substance use. Or they don’t know where to turn for help. St. Luke’s Penn Foundation offers support for the entire family through family-focused programs.
When someone you love is struggling with alcohol or drug use, it can feel heartbreaking, especially if they deny there’s a problem or refuse help. Our Family Consultation service gives families a supportive space to meet with a trained substance use therapist, talk through what’s happening, and understand the impact on both your loved one and your family. Together, you’ll develop a plan to address the substance use and explore practical ways to encourage your loved one to engage in treatment, including recommendations for St. Luke’s Penn Foundation services when appropriate. To learn more, call 215.257.6553 or email slpf_rc_help@sluhn.org.
Mobile Engagement Service (MES) is a community-based addiction intervention program for individuals and families who have not accessed, or have not responded to, traditional drug and alcohol treatment. MES provides acute, ongoing support in the community, taking an active role in helping people move toward recovery through a structured four-level approach: Engagement (building open, honest dialogue); Motivate (creating a vision for change); Stabilize (developing a service plan to move from crisis to healthier routines); and Monitor (supporting lasting progress and responding quickly if setbacks occur).
MES services may include comprehensive drug and alcohol assessments and placement, relapse prevention planning, crisis support and diversion from hospital-based services, and assistance in navigating the legal system. The team also offers peer and family networking, including access to 12-step meetings and family education, as well as service coordination for needs such as medication-assisted treatment, case management, peer counseling, insurance/funding support, employment, and childcare. For more information, call 215.257.6553 or email slpf_rc_help@sluhn.org.
