Education and training are at the heart of our Pastoral Services Department. We coordinate a number of pastoral education, training, supervision, and coaching programs throughout the year.
Basic Pastoral Skills Course
This 6-week course is designed for church workers who volunteer as pastoral visitors or Eucharistic ministers at local hospitals, retirement communities, hospice programs, or in the home. Depending on registrations, this course is conducted every fall, covering such topics as pastoral identity and conversation, pastoral diagnosis and planning, grief and loss, aging, the use of prayer in a pastoral visit, and self-care. The annual registration fee is $50.00.
Advanced Pastoral Skills Workshop
This workshop is for church workers who graduated from the basic pastoral skills course. This workshop is conducted every other fall, covering such topics as crisis ministry and sudden traumatic loss. There is no fee.
Peer Review for Local Chaplains
This “closed group” is an opportunity for local chaplains to present and receive feedback on difficult pastoral situations in an atmosphere that is both collegial and confidential. Meets monthly for 90 minutes. The registration fee is $125.00.
