Penn Foundation Hosts 12th Annual Legislative Luncheon
On March 10, 2017, Penn Foundation hosted its 12th annual Legislative Luncheon. This event provides an opportunity for local legislators to visit Penn Foundation’s campus and learn more about the agency’s programs and services and to share their legislative priorities.
Penn Foundation President and CEO Wayne Mugrauer provided an overview of Penn Foundation’s innovative endeavors over the past year and shared the agency’s programmatic priorities for 2017, highlighting the strides that Penn Foundation has made to position itself to become a fully-integrated, holistically-oriented healthcare system.
Debra Springer, BS, Director of Penn Foundation’s Family Autism Center, and Julie Worley, PhD, Licensed Psychologist with the Family Autism Center, spoke about the community need for Autism services, particularly timely access to autism assessments and support for the whole family. They described how Penn Foundation is meeting these needs with the opening of its Family Autism Center in 2016. Detective Joseph Rudner, father to twin 9-year-old boys who are both diagnosed with autism, shared his family’s experience receiving services through the Family Autism Center and expressed his gratitude for now being able to do “normal, everyday things with my boys like grocery shopping and going out to eat.”
In a time when mental health and substance abuse are being discussed on a national level, Penn Foundation is grateful for the opportunity to dialogue with area legislators about its programs and the issues facing community behavioral healthcare providers. Special thanks to those legislators who attended the luncheon – Bucks County Commissioners Diane Ellis-Marseglia and Robert Loughery and State Representatives Thomas Murt and Todd Stephens.
