Psychiatrist Alan Sofranko, M.D., Joins Penn Foundation Staff

Psychiatrist Alan Sofranko, M.D., has joined the staff of Penn Foundation.Alan Sofranko

A native of Bear Creek, Dr. Sofranko earned his medical degree from Saba University School of
Medicine (Devens, Massachusetts) and completed his residency training at the University of
Maryland/Sheppard Pratt. He also earned a graduate degree in Biomedical Science from the
Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine.

Prior to joining Penn Foundation, Dr. Sofranko served as Director of Psychiatry at Healthcare
for the Homeless in Baltimore, Maryland. He holds special interest in community mental
health, dual diagnosis treatment, and advocacy to end homelessness. Dr. Sofranko is
certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and the American Society of Addiction Medicine.
He is licensed to practice psychiatry in Maryland and Pennsylvania.

Dr. Sofranko will be providing psychiatric assessments and medication management for adults using Penn Foundation’s Recovery Center and FACT (Forensic Assertive Community Treatment) program. The Recovery Center provides a full continuum of care for substance use that encompasses inpatient rehabilitation, outpatient services, mobile outreach, family consultation, and community education. FACT blends the disciplines of psychiatry, psychology, nursing, addictions, social work, and psychosocial rehabilitation, offering a multidisciplinary team of professionals that works together to provide highly individualized treatment, rehabilitation, and support services for individuals with serious mental illness. This team also includes a Forensics Specialist whose primary role is to advocate for consumers as they move through the criminal justice system.
