Heisman Trophy Winner and Autism Advocate Doug Flutie will be the featured speaker at Penn Foundation's ninth annual Autumn Event fundraiser on Tuesday, October 25, 2011 at 7:30 pm at Calvary Church Auditorium (820 Route 113, Souderton). Proceeds from this event benefit Penn Foundation’s Commonwealth Fund, which provides charitable support to approximately two-thirds of the agency’s 10,000 clients who cannot pay or can only partially pay for the services they receive.

The evening’s festivities will begin with a Spectacular Silent Auction at 5:30 pm, featuring one-of-a-kind experiences and specialty items that highlight the best our region has to offer. Proceeds from the Silent Auction will benefit Camp Courage, a summer camp for children with special needs sponsored by Penn Foundation in partnership with Camp Men-O-Lan in Quakertown.

For almost 30 years, Doug Flutie's name has been synonymous with excellence in both college and professional football. His charismatic personality and personable style have translated into success off the field as well. Known for his famous “Hail Mary” pass against the University of Miami to win the Orange Bowl for Boston College and winner of the 1984 Heisman Trophy, Doug played in the USFL, the NFL, and the Canadian Football League. In 1998, as quarterback for the Buffalo Bills, Doug was selected to the NFL Pro Bowl and was honored as “NFL Comeback Player of the Year.”

That same year, Doug and his wife, Laurie, established the Doug Flutie, Jr. Foundation for Autism. Named for their son, Dougie Jr., the Foundation helps less-fortunate families who have children with Autism. The Flutie Foundation has raised over $12 million dollars for Autism causes.
