Penn Foundation Partners with Community to Promote Substance Abuse Prevention and Awareness

In June, Penn Foundation partnered with Perkasie Borough to present a town hall-style meeting about the use of heroin and other drugs in our community. The standing room-only crowd of 200 concerned citizens affirmed our community's desire to be part of the conversation and the solution. Since the town hall meeting, Penn Foundation has been asked to participate in a number of other community meetings concerning this important topic.

  • In September, Gordon Hornig, Director of Mobile Engagement Services (MES), presented as part of a panel at Pennridge High School's Back-to-School Night.

  • On October 23, Randy Trauger, Recovery Center Community Liaison, participated in "Substance Abuse in Our Community" at Palisades High School. This event was an upper Bucks community outreach initiative by the Bedminster Township Police Department and Upper Bucks County Vocational Technical School.

  • On October 30, Penn Foundation representatives took part in a town hall meeting about the heroin epidemic in Bucks County. Sponsored by the Bucks County Heroin Taskforce, the meeting was held at Morning Star Fellowship in Quakertown.

  • On November 11, Recovery Center Chaplain Sister Mary Julia McKenzie and Community Liaison Randy Trauger helped to organize and participated in "When Someone You Love Struggles with Addiction" at Nativity of Our Lord in Warminster.

Penn Foundation is pleased to be part of these much needed community conversations, and we plan to continue our outreach efforts to promote substance abuse prevention and awareness.
