Group Counselor (Licensed) - Autism

Position Overview

The Group Counselor conducts social skill groups for individuals with autism spectrum disorder of varying ages and developmental abilities using an evidence-based curriculum. Parent/caregiver workshops on various topics related to autism will also be offered to family members of individuals with autism.

Hours:  Flexible, Part-time position, up to 12 hours/week

Essential Job Responsibilities:

  • Research, plan and develop an evidence-based social skills curriculum for individuals with autism spectrum disorder.
  • Provide weekly social skill groups for individuals with autism spectrum disorder, using an evidence-based curriculum, of varying ages and developmental levels.
  • Provide parent/caregiver workshops on various topics related to autism on a monthly basis as assigned by the Director.
  • Provide intensive stabilization services to children and adolescents in crisis should they occur in the social skills group setting.
  • Supervise and utilize the assistance of practicum students in the social skills group setting.
  • Collect data and graph outcomes of the curriculum used and the participant's progress.
  • Attend monthly group supervision meetings with other Family Autism Center staff.
  • Maintain detailed notes for each session and submit these notes along with electronic timesheet on a weekly basis.

Requirements:

  • A Master's Degree in Counseling, or a related field
  • Current Pennsylvania (LCSW, LPC, MFT, Psychologist)
  • Must also have experience working with youth on the autism spectrum
  • Knowledge of current counseling practices
  • Ability to plan, implement and evaluate evidence-based curriculum used
  • Advanced psychotherapy skills
  • Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in written documents
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to work creatively and with flexibility
  • A Pennsylvania Criminal Record Check, a Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance and a FBI Criminal History Background Check required
