SUMMARY:Traumatic and Acquired Brain Injuries: Causes\, Rehabilitation and Treatment Strageties
DESCRIPTION:About the Course \nThis course will provide an overview of Brain Injury\, including Traumatic vs. Acquired Brain Injury\, risk factors associated with Traumatic Brain Injury and Acquired Brain Injury\, the rehabilitation continuum of care\, basic brain structures/functions and their associated brain-behavior relationships.  Common cognitive\, physical\, emotional\, behavioral and social changes after brain injury will be identified.  Strategies to enhance treatment effectiveness will be discussed. \n  \nCourse Objectives \n\nParticipants will be able to list three causes of Traumatic Brain Injury and three causes of Acquired Brain Injury\nParticipants will be able to summarize how gender\, race and socioeconomic status are related to risk of Traumatic Brain Injury and Acquired Brain Injury\nParticipants will be able to recognize the differences between Acute\, Sub-Acute and Post-Acute Rehabilitation for Traumatic Brain Injury and Acquired Brain Injury\nParticipants will be able to describe 3 common functional changes after brain injury\nParticipants will be able to identify two strategies that could enhance the effectiveness of individual pyschotherapy with a person with Traumatic Brain Injury or Acquired Brain Injury\n\n  \nTarget Audience \nTarget audience includes social workers\, professional counselors\, marriage and family therapists\, recovery coaches\, peer specialists\, nurses\, nurse practitioners\, psychiatrists\, and substance abuse counselors for this intermediate level of instruction. \n  \nCEs \n\n2.0 PCB Approved Education Credits\n2.0 Continuing Education Credits for Licensed Social Workers\, Licensed Professional Counselors\, and Licensed Marriage and Family Therapists\n2.0 Continuing Education Credits for Registered Nurses (RN) and Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN)\n\n  \nThere is no conflict of interest or commercial support for this program. \nAll attendees must arrive promptly at the beginning of the training and remain the duration of the training to receive continuing education credits.  Please have license number available when signing in. \nPersons with disabilities and special needs are encouraged to contact the registrar for further information. \n  \nAbout the Presenter \nKaren L. Rosenberger\, Psy.D.\, CBIS\, is a Pennsylvania-licensed psychologist specializing in the treatment of emotional and behavioral needs of persons with Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) and Acquired Brain Injury (ABI).  Her Doctorate in Clinical Psychology is from Indiana University of Pennsylvania.  She is a seasoned clinician\, with years of experience in a wide range of settings with persons with compromised brain functioning.  With clients at Success\, Dr. Rosenberger’s individual psychotherapy blends teaching real-world problem-solving with cultivation of healthy coping skills.  In her leadership role at Success\, Dr. Rosenberger supervises clinicians\, develops outcome measurements of clients’ advances\, enhances communication systems between multidisciplinary team members\, and works closely with the organization’s president and all staff to implement the mission of the company and to facilitate exceptional client care for persons with Brain Injury. \n  \nReferences \n\nGranacher\, R.P.
