SUMMARY:Drug Trends and Safety Protocols
DESCRIPTION:About the Course \nThis course provides the current drug trends in our community and levels of care coordinated treatment approaches for drug use/abuse.  Attendees will have the opportunity to view drug packaging and paraphernalia as well as learn effective and safe methods of drug and paraphernalia disposal.  Specific attention will focus on the current opioid epidemic. \nCourse Objectives \n\nParticipants will be able to list three current drug trends in our community\nParticipants will identify at least two drug packaging and paraphernalia specific to the current opioid epidemic\nParticipants will observe a demonstration of safe handling and disposal of illicit drugs and paraphernalia\n\nTarget Audience \nTarget audience includes psychologists\, social workers\, professional counselors\, marriage and family therapists\, recovery coaches\, peer specialists\, nurses\, nurse practitioners\, psychiatrists\, and substance abuse counselors for this intermediate level of instruction. \nCEs \n\n2.0 PCB Approved Education Credits\n2.0 Continuing Education Credits for Licensed Social Workers\, Licensed Professional Counselors\, and Licensed Marriage and Family Therapists\n2.0 Continuing Education Credits for Registered Nurses (RN) and Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN)\n\nThere is no conflict of interest or commercial support for this program. \n  \nAll attendees must arrive promptly at the beginning of the training and remain the duration of the training to receive continuing education credits.  Please have license number available when signing in.  \nPersons with disabilities and special needs are encouraged to contact the registrar for further information. \n  \nAbout the Presenter \nGordon Hornig\, LSW\, is a licensed social worker and lecturer in the areas of drug addiction and co-occurring disorders.  Mr. Hornig is the Mobile Engagement Director at Penn Foundation.  He co-developed the Mobile Engagement Service model 21 years ago.  Prior to his work at Penn Foundation\, Mr. Hornig was a law enforcement officer with the Northampton County Sheriff’s Department and Lehigh County Adult Probation & Parole Department.  Mr. Hornig has appeared on several radio programs\, presented “Engagement Strategies” at the Pennsylvania Crime and Delinquency Commission and Bucks County Forensic Mental Health Panel.  He facilitated hands-on training for staff at the Northwest New Jersey Community Action Program\, Inc.; he was a guest instructor for the Bucks County Crisis Intervention Team (CIT); he conducted Town Hall meetings across the tri-county area in response to the recent heroin epidemic\, and most recently\, he teamed with Bucks County Drug and Alcohol Commissions and Bucks County Children  & Youth Services to implement a drug and alcohol mobile assessor and engagement specialist program. He was instrumental with the start-up and implementation of the ACT 53 program in Bucks that identifies\, assesses\, and voluntarily/involuntarily places at risk youth for addiction. \n  \nFor more information\, contact Karen M.
