PREPaRE Workshop 1
COMPREHENSIVE SCHOOL SAFETY PLANNING: Prevention Through Recovery (Third Edition)
DAY 1: Monday, October 3, 2022 | 8:00 am – 5:00 pm | $45
Workshop 1 is 6.5 hours plus breaks and lunch. Plan for 8 hours total.
This 1-day workshop is part of the PREPaRE School Safety and Crisis Prevention and Intervention Training Curriculum developed by the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP). The workshop is designed for all members of a school safety and crisis team (e.g., administrators, school employed mental health professionals, school resource officers or security personnel, and other relevant staff members). It provides current research and strategies for integrated school safety and crisis prevention, planning, response, and recovery efforts as they pertain to safety and crisis team development, planning, and procedures.
Participants will learn how to establish and sustain comprehensive school safety efforts that attend to both physical and psychological safety. The workshop addresses critical components needed to develop, exercise, and evaluate safety and crisis teams and plans and conduct building vulnerability assessments. The model also integrates school personnel and community provider roles in providing school-based crisis preparedness and response activities. Additional topics addressed also include media/ social media, communication, reunification, students with special needs, culture, and memorials. After this workshop, participants will be better prepared to improve their schools’ climate, students’ resilience, and crisis response capabilities of school personnel. With updated research and strategies, this workshop makes a clear connection between ongoing crisis prevention, mitigation, protection, and response.
PREPaRE Workshop 2
MENTAL HEALTH CRISIS INTERVENTIONS: Responding to an Acute Traumatic Stressor in Schools (Third Edition)
DAY 2 & 3: Tuesday, October 11, 2022 and Wednesday, October 12, 2022 | 8:00 am – 4:30 pm | $55
Workshop 2 is 12 hours split between 2 days plus breaks and lunch. Plan for 7.5 hours both days.
This 2-day workshop is part of the PREPaRE School Safety and Crisis Prevention and Intervention Training Curriculum developed by the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP). This workshop is designed for schoolemployed mental health professionals and relevant school administrators responsible for meeting the mental health needs of students and staff.
Specifically, this PREPaRE workshop develops the knowledge and skills required to provide immediate multitiered mental health crisis interventions to the students, staff, and school community members who have been simultaneously exposed to an acute traumatic stressor. Examples of such stressors include the death of staff or students, suicide, natural disasters, acts of war or terrorism, and acts of violence. The knowledge and skills developed within this session also help to build a bridge to the psychotherapeutic and trauma informed mental health response sometimes required to address challenges associated with trauma exposure.
