For Seniors

Geriatric Services

“Mom doesn’t seem herself these days. She is moody and refused invitations to social events she normally enjoys. She is also forgetting things lately. What should we do?”

Our Geriatric Services Program is designed with the unique mental health needs of older individuals in mind. Changing lifestyles, declining strength, loss of loved ones or friends, or illness are common challenges seniors face. We can help when these challenges become overwhelming or when they interfere in an individual’s life.

We provide specialized services to individuals 60 years of age and older as well as their loved ones. We will work closely with primary care physician(s), family, and caretakers. Our goal is to promote the health and well-being of older individuals in the community and assist when times get tough.

The Geriatric Services Center can provide treatment and/or consultation for a variety of problems seniors face, including:

  • Anxiety
  • Behavioral Changes Associated with Dementia
  • Dementia and Memory Impairment
  • Depression
  • Family Issues
  • Grief and Loss
  • Issues Related to Changing Health and Medical Status

Our Services Include

  • Assessment: A combination of factors contributes to how we think and feel. Our assessment of an individual’s behavior includes an evaluation of physical and mental health, lifestyle changes, current stressors, and everyday functioning of the individual. The outcome of this evaluation is a clear diagnosis and treatment recommendations based on our assessment.
  • Treatment: We provide specialized interventions to address the specific needs of seniors. Treatments might include: counseling, psychiatric medication management, education, engaging community support, and assistance to families/spouses of the individual.
  • Education: Gerontology-centered trainings and resources for families, geriatric and general practitioners, and instruction and supervision for students in the field of gerontology. Practicum and internship opportunities available upon request. Staff are available for community talks and staff education.
  • Promotion of Health and Wellness: Programs facilitating the practice and understanding of good health, longevity and well-being are available. Exercise, spirituality, and health maintenance are emphasized.
  • Consultation: We consult to continuing care facilities and nursing homes throughout central Montgomery and upper Bucks Counties to provide assessment and treatment for emotional, cognitive, and behavioral problems that arise in these settings. A psychiatrist and psychologist work together as a team and in cooperation with the family and facility staff to provide the most cohesive care possible for residents.
  • Community Support and Collaboration: We work together with various community groups and agencies such as the Area Agency on Aging, Community Home Services, Grand View Hospital, local colleges, and other agencies to provide education, participate in research, and support programs designed to promote the well-being and safety of seniors.
